French director, writer, and actress Maywen has revealed her experience working with Hollywood star Johnny Depp on the historical drama film, Jeanne du Barry. In an interview with The Independent, Maywen spoke about the film, in which she plays a worker in 18th-century France who becomes the mistress of King Louis XV, played by Depp. Maywen admitted that it was difficult to work with Depp because he has a different type of humor, and the crew was nervous about whether he would arrive on time and agree with his lines. The film marks a major return for Depp after a widely publicized defamation trial that involved his ex-wife Amber Heard. Maywen also stars in the film as Jeanne du Barry, described as a young working-class woman hungry for culture and pleasure who uses her intelligence and attractiveness to climb the social ladder and become the favorite of King Depp. This is Depp's first feature film since 2020's Minamata, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
